Nature-Inspired Wall Art For Kids Room That Will Grow With Your Child

Your toddler has moved into a big kid bed and you're desperately trying to figure out how to decorate the walls of their new bedroom. I'm going to give you some awesome and fun kids room art ideas in this blog post...but first, I wanted to give you a quick background on why I even started this business in the first place. Hint, it totally has to do with everything this article is about!

I was a family photographer for 13 years and ya know what, I'm totally going to toot my own horn...I was phenomenal at it. Since I was so good, I ended up stepping foot in hundreds of nurseries and I noticed a common theme in nurseries - generic, cutesy art that would quickly be outgrown. Personally, not my cup of tea but also, it kept making me think, what happens when the baby is a big kid and they don't want that cutesy stuff on their walls anymore.

I kept asking myself, what if I created art that a child could grow with instead of outgrow??? What if the parents could repurpose the art around their home if the kid didn't want it anymore???

And that's when the idea to create nature-inspired art that could grow with a child was born. Not only are these prints timeless and beautiful, but they can also be easily repurposed in other spaces in your home.

So now, let's dive into the good stuff.

What do you put on a toddler wall?

When you're starting to consider what to decorate your toddler's walls with, I think an important element to take into consideration is the versatility of the art as well as the longevity factor. For example, cartoon dump trucks or bunnies are going to be 'out' quite quickly as your kiddo grows up. However, something like trees and flowers ie) nature-inspired art prints are not only timeless and beautiful, but they also offer a versatility that can grow with your child as they transition from nursery to teen room...and beyond!

The soothing and natural elements found in these prints can complement a wide range of decor styles, ensuring that they remain a beloved part of your child's room for years to come. Whether it's forest tree leaves or a minimalist botanical print, nature-inspired art has the ability to adapt to your child's changing tastes and preferences as they mature. With this seamless transition in mind, let's explore tips for incorporating nature-inspired art into your child's room.

But first, I have to tell you.... I secretly have a dream that in 80 years, a baby that has one of my prints in their nursery today brings that print and puts it up on the wall of their room in a senior living home. A tagline I workshopped last year but ultimately decided against was From The Nursery To The Nursing Home. It has potential, right?

Ok, back to our scheduled programming.

Tips for Incorporating Nature-Inspired Art into Your Child's Room

When looking for nature-inspired art for your kids room, consider mixing and matching different prints to create a gallery wall effect. You can combine various sizes, frames, and styles to add visual interest and depth to the space. Additionally, don't be afraid to experiment with different arrangements to find what works best for your child's room layout.

Another tip is to incorporate nature into other elements of the room, such as plants! This can help tie the room together and create a harmonious space. By layering different elements of nature-inspired design, you can create a space that feels connected and serene.

As well, consider involving your child in the process of selecting the art for their kids room.  By involving them in the decision-making process, you can create a room that feels uniquely theirs and that they will love spending time in. Encourage them to choose prints that they vibe with! I know that it could be looked at that trees are for boys and flowers are for girls, but I like to believe that nature is actually gender neutral and kids will show you that. When you give them the choice, you'll be surprised by how many boys choose flowers and girls choose trees. My 5 yr old nephew designed his own custom birth print and chose the hydrangea flowers and stated, 'even boys can like flowers!'

Adding a Special Touch With Personalized Name Prints

These customized prints feature your child's name and birth info alongside natural elements like leaves or flowers, creating a one-of-a-kind piece of art that is a keepsake and will eventually turn into a family heirloom. Not only do these prints serve as a beautiful decor piece, but they also make for a meaningful and personalized gift. As your child grows, these name prints will continue to hold sentimental value, making them a cherished part of their room decor for years to come.

The Best Part? You Can Repurpose This Kid Room Art!

Honestly, my most favourite part about this art is the fact that you can put it up on the walls anywhere in your home! Say your kid turns into an angsty 13yr old who doesn't want lame nature on their walls anymore. They will come around with time, but for now, they're hormonal and angry and get this stupid flower off my wall! No problem sweetie, I'll just put it up in my bathroom/bedroom/laundry room/living room...you get the idea! You definitely can't do that with baby animals. Well I guess you technically could, it would just be weird.

Case in point - here is the same print in 4 different rooms (nursery, kid, bedroom, living room)

So why settle for temporary and generic wall art for kids rooms when you can choose pieces that will not only adapt to your child's changing tastes, but also hold sentimental value for years to come? As the saying goes, "nature does not hurry, yet everything is accomplished." Let's take a cue from nature and create a timeless and versatile space for your children that they can grow and thrive in.
