Red Oak Tree Art Print
The mighty Northern Red Oak signifies strength, nobility, and a willingness to survive for these oaks are unsurpassed in their grandeur, size, longevity of life, and numbers.
Druids were concerned with the natural world and its powers, and considered trees sacred, particularly the oak. The oak tree was the symbol of their religion, and potent source of wisdom. They often worshipped in Oak groves. At Yule, the Druids would extinguish all of their fires. When the new seasons fires were lit, only logs from the Oak would be used.
In natural sciences, the first insights into oak symbolism emerged from very early writings by Pliny the Elder. Pliny provided a detailed description of the ways in which druids celebrated mistletoe growing on sacred oak trees and its use to prepare remedies to cure infertility.
In ancient Celtic lore, the oak tree was often referred to as ‘The Fathers of the Woods’ where he ruled the lands with his ‘Beech Queen’.
