Immortality | Peace | Protection
The White Pine is a symbol of great peace. In 1400, the Iroquois nation consisted of five tribes who were at odds with one another. The great peacekeeper convinced them to come together and uprooted a giant white pine. He instructed each tribe to throw their weapons into the hole and replanted the tree. The underground waters took the weapons away and on the tree grew clusters of needles in fives.
Each cluster of five needles is said to represent the five tribes.
