Trillium | Flower Art Prints
Provincial Flower for Ontario | Renewal | Transformation | Rebirth
According to Ojibwa legend the original four-petalled flower was altered by a Jesuit priest visiting indigenous tribes. He was sent over to Canada from France to teach about Christianity and in his efforts to communicate to the local First Nations and explain the holy trinity, he plucked a petal from the wildflower.
In many ways, the trillium signifies spiritual transformation rebirth and renewal, reflecting its ability to bloom in forested areas and thrive in challenging conditions. It is also one of the very first spring wildflowers to bloom.
Mountain folklore says if you pick a trillium, it will rain. Girl Guide folklore of the 90s says, if you pick a trillium you will immediately go to jail IFYKYK.
